Variety Car Club Bash

"VARIETY CAR BASH 2008"

The girls from Car 656

The girls from Car656 are home after successfully completing the 2008 NSW Variety Bash. And what a different Bash it was wet, wet, wet!!
The only day we saw NO rain was on our final drive from Cooma to Batemans Bay on Saturday. But one never lets a few drops of rain get in the way of a good time, the wipers never failed, our pet pig worked as a demisting rag and other than the drip from the roof, didn’t notice any other leaks.
We saw some fantastic scenery as usual, particularly as we wound around the Grampians, a day when we had fuel line problems which kept us as the last car in the pack, arriving at lunch at 4pm and travelling late into Warrnambool. Mind you, this was not our latest night nor our only hiccup but all our mishaps meant a little more quality time with the lovely guys in the mobile workshops whom I have come to know quite well over my Bashing career.

We met some terrific communities and kids along the way. In Warrnambool a couple of teams went to the hospital where we chatted with a few kids as well as some of the older people in palliative care. Afterwards we headed out to the 98 pupil school in Woolsthorpe where the Cowgirls were invited back to one of the classrooms to inspect the progress the children were making with their clay models of Chinese warriors.

The drive along the Great Ocean Road was, I heard, pretty good. My seat in the helicopter courtesy of Lambert Vineyards was far more exciting and spectacular, watching the waves crashing into the coast line and spraying up the sides of whats left of the 12 apostles is something I will remember for many years to come.

There are many more tales to tell but I won’t go into them here. I would like again, on behalf of my team and the kids we raise money to help, to thank you all for your donations and support. Car656 donated $25,000 which went towards the overall total raised by the Bash participants of over $2 million. Car656 led the start of the Bash as well as the final parade into Batemans Bay and we were photographed by many local papers so some good coverage was received.

2009 will come around soon and I will let you know when we know the route. What I do know is it’s a National Bash (ie all States run a Bash and we all meet up in the Centre one night) and it’s my 10th consecutive NSW Bash so I will most definitely be making the journey!!

Regards
Amanda
