2009 NEWCASTLE VARIETY MINI BASH
During the weekend of November 6-7 Newcastle Variety staged a special event.
The 2009 MINI BASH, yes that's correct a Variety Bash but a smaller version.
24 cars mainly vehicles over 30 years of age took the start from McDonalds Heatherbrea (just north of Newcastle in NSW) to head off on a
journey through the scenic Barrington Tops.
There were some True Blue Bashers on the jaunt and I was one of them. Colourful characters, cars and clothes were there in all their glory.
(I promise I will not wear my Daffy Duck pants again)
First stop on the Mini Bash was lunch at Krambach Hotel. The willing staff braved the cold temperatures and the rain, but this did not stop them
putting on a beautiful buffet lunch for the 60 odd Bashers. What was different about this lunch was that is that it was held outside the hotel on
the sidewalk. Plenty of room for all and for the Virgin Bashers time to mingle with like minded people who are dedicated to raise funds for sick and
disadvantaged children.
After a scrumptious lunch we were off again in terrentail rain (oh don't ya love that on a bash) especially in the mud.

We were headed for a lovely town called KEW on the main Pacific Hwy which takes you to Coffs Harbour, this is where we would
muster for our parade into North Haven. Our final destination for the weekend. A total of 244 kilometres mostly on dirt and gravel roads were the
flavour of the Mini Bash. (how good is that)
As the cars made there way through rain, sleet and mud we arrived some 114 kilometres from the lunch stop and gathered for our parade into town.
With lights blazing, sirens sounding and every imaginable animal noise and music playing we arrived at the North Haven Bowling Club.

Once again stories were exchanged on who drove what car and how navigators (made) the drivers take wrong turns along the way.
How the backseat drivers told the navigators what to do and what not to do, let alone how to consume 2 kilos of lollies along the way, and nearly
send the drivers nuts with their singing. Laughter was a plenty and so were the stories. (wow and this was a mini bash)
After a fabulous meal and an entertaining evening and a delicious breakfast the next morning at the North Haven Bowling Club it was time for the
Bashers to discuss next years Mini Bash.
There were cars from Narrabri, Sydney, Newcastle, Maitland and Cessnock.
I along with my motley crew confiscated Ian Banks 1965 Ford Falcon for the event, and with the help of Caltex Sydney, Hytec Concrete,
Cherrybrook Cherries, Mistletoe Wines, Wongarra Motel and many more, I would like to say a BIG thank you.

If you would like to be a part of the fun and laughter whilst helping to raise much needed funds for Variety The Children's
Charity, simply pick up the phone and call the lovely Miss Kim 02-49-654911 or send her an email on kim.priestly@varietynsw.org.au
